I am learning to play piano. Please help me with my questions:1.Why do we need to practice fingering and scales?2.On the internet, where can I find the fingering and scales exercises that I can use for practice fingering and scales?3.For adult beginner, what is the typical daily piano practice (Fingering? Scale?...) and how much time you allocate for each activities. Thanks you very much in advanced
Listen here, you don't need to practice anything you don't want to. I have played for 7 years and I am past grade 8 standard, I figure out my own fingering for songs I play and the only scales I have ever learned are the c major scale and the chromatic scale. If you don't know why you need to practice it, then don't practice it, that's my opinion on the matter. Piano is a great instrument and I play solely for the enjoyment of it. You start forcing me to play scales and exercises that I don't want to play and suddenly this fun, interesting instrument becomes work, it becomes a chore.
You need to practice fingering because if you don't your fingers will get all messed up and and it will be WAY harder to play. They even have little finger numbers on pieces like Fur Elise.
I really have no idea why people practice scales. Maybe so that you know chords better or something?
We practice scales so that we are fluent in the patterns that repeat in music. Scales and arpeggios occur often in all kinds of more advanced music. Check this site for scale information.

For an adult beginner, 1/4 of your practice should be devoted to careful and accurate practice of scales and exercises. You are training your brain as well as your fingers. You cannot afford the luxury of training yourself to make mistakes so practice slowly. An hour a day of practice should be your goal, but if you are not focused while practicing, then break up the time into smaller increments. Best wishes.
